Being a leader by instinct groomed by technical skills

There is a communication between a leader and a follower. If there is no communication, leadership cannot be very effective. Leader cannot lead if there are no listeners or followers in the team. They will not listen if the leader does not listen. Removing effective communication - there is no leadership to be evolved in the process in any given work culture.

This is a true story of life saving act of a woman who with little known possibility of saving the flight passengers. After 20 minutes of flight, passengers heard a loud explosions. Engine failed, engine parts broke the windows. Things got sucked into the broken hole in the flight. A female passenger too. It is the southwest flight 1380. Other passengers tried to save this female.

Through all this chaos of life or death situation - the flight is piloted by Navy trained fine lady, she is the best in the field. Being the instructor to tactically handle the war aircraft, she is the best in class skilled pilot. The flight with its engine parts missing in the mid air flight, she is the the one who could handle the situation. It is the right situation with rightfully capable person to handle.

Being calm and composed - no wonder any one could have blamed for not reacting as panicking as anyone would expect, she mentioned that aircraft is missing few vital parts to the air traffic control.Through out the whole situation - she was highly composed to communicate effectively to the coworkers and the team that the flight is not under fire - calm enough to give technical specifications, The flight crew were calm enough to replicate and follow the instructions of the pilot.

Finally, through much of a vibration that tickled everyone to feel the value of life for few seconds - tears flew from all passengers that it was their last day. But when the flight came to halt, everyone came to their senses that they are still alive and have been thankful.

If the day was without Tammy Jo Shults who piloted, no one could have guessed what could have happened to all the passengers.  Well, every passenger applauded the effort of Tammy. One even commented that she is woman of steel, who not only had technical skills but also had maintained professionalism.

Now that is what the leadership is all about, provide solutions when everything goes wrong. And to be part of the team to work along with everyone in the team. Giving credits to everyone's effort. Well, that being said - what made her to be calm and composed in a situation like this? which is the important ingredient of leadership. Let's explore -

Its from the army doctrine - the good leaders, in turn, communicate by listening actively(Flight is not on fire but parts were missing), creating shared understanding (woman passenger got sucked into broken window) , employing engaging communication techniques (technically skilled), and being sensitive to cultural factors in communication at all situations (Being calm, composed and with professionalism).

Now for you to get into that category - it takes disciplined practice to be decisive, agile, confident, providing purpose, direction and motivation to achieve the common purpose, being servant and as well influencing others.
